Botox and Dysport
-
Neurotoxins, better know by the brand names Botox and Dysport, are a nonsurgical form of wrinkle treatment. They work by relaxing the muscles associated with the movements that create wrinkles and fine lines.
-
Botox is $13.50/unit
Dysport is $5/unit
-
Both substances are botulinum neurotoxins that relax the muscles under the skin. However, they have different formulas which cause them to have different potencies and possibly differences in their duration or onset of effect.
Dysport is more diluted and spreads more when injected into the face. This makes it better for treatment of larger areas such as forehead and glabellar lines, whereas Botox works better for smaller areas such as crows feet.
While there is a significant difference in the cost per unit, it is said that the potency of Botox is roughly 3 units of Dysport, which means it will require more units of Dysport for similar units.
If you are unsure of which is best for you, consult with your provider prior to injections.
